Kosher Certification

Many of our pretzels became Kosher certified (OU-D) by the Orthodox Union in early 2004. Our manufacturing practices are in compliance with the Orthodox Union’s requirements.  Please look for the OU-D in the description when shopping in our on-line store.  View our current Kosher Certificate here.  View our current Kosher Certificate for chocolate items here.

PLEASE NOTE: When Kosher certified products are packaged with non-Kosher certified items, the entire package is no longer Kosher certified.

Allergen Information

More and more, food allergens are becoming a common concern among families.  We get it, we have families too.  All our products contain wheat.  In addition, some of our products contain milk, soy, and sesame.  While we try our best to keep allergens separate, there is always the possibility of cross-contamination on our lines, so please take that into consideration when deciding the best choice for your family.

Bioengineered Ingredients

In 2022, the Federal government mandated that all products containing ingredients found on the Bioengineered List must be disclosed on the packaging.  That list includes corn as 90% of all corn grown in the United States is considered bioengineered.  Farmers and scientists have developed new strains of plants through crossbreeding for thousands of years.  Today, technology allows scientists to continue to breed new strains of plants for drought resistance, insect resistance, and other traits in a much quicker timeframe than traditional crossbreeding allows.  This is called bioengineering.  Bioengineering is generally recognized as safe for human consumption.

At Tom Sturgis Pretzels, we continue to use the same quality ingredients that we have always used — ones that can be found in most pantries in the United States.  However, to comply with Federal law, our bags must now bear the Bioengineered symbol.  New bag.  Same great ingredients.
